The Honourable John McCallum has enjoyed a distinguished career serving in six ministerial portfolios with The Government of Canada, most recently in Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship. Mr. McCallum also nominated Nelson Mandela as honorary citizen in 2001 and led an initiative to welcome more than 40,000 Syrian refugees to Canada.

Now serving as the Ambassador of Canada to the People’s Republic of China, Mr. McCallum will be the Forum’s first keynote presenter, talking about opportunities for Canadian business in China.

Speaker: The Honourable Jean Charest
 

With a public service career spanning close to 30 years, The Honourable Jean Charest is one of Canada’s best known political figures. Mr. Charest was first elected to the House of Commons in 1984, and became Canada’s youngest cabinet minister as the Minister of State for Youth at the age of 28.

In 1994, Mr. Charest was chosen Leader of the Federal Progressive Conservative Party, becoming the party’s first French Canadian leader. He held that position until 1998 when he became the Leader of the Québec Liberal Party. He then became Premier of Québec in 2003 and broke a 50-year provincial record by winning three consecutive election campaigns in 2003, 2007 & 2008.

Mr. Charest is currently a partner at McCarthy Tétrault where he provides invaluable expertise to the firm’s clients with his in-depth knowledge and experience in areas including public policy, corporate Canada and international matters.

Mr. Charest has had extensive political experience and vast knowledge on the topic, and will speak about the growth of China’s middle class and the power of the ‘Canadian’ brand in China.
