Purpose of the CNEA:

Established in 1879,The Canadian National Exhibition Association (CNEA) is governed and operated under the jurisdiction of the Canadian National Exhibition Association Act of 1983, as amended by the Statutes of Ontario, 1999 and received Royal Assent in December 2000. The CNEA is responsible for planning and operating the annual exhibition known as the “Canadian National Exhibition”, the “CNE” or “The Ex” (CNEA By-Laws, October 2016).

CNEA Membership Purpose Statement:

The following purpose statement applies to all CNEA Members, in all Sections.

The Purpose of the Canadian National Exhibition Association Membership is to connect the CNEA with leaders and influencers in various sectors and communities in Canada in order to further the interests of the CNEA and the community it serves. In pursuance of this Purpose, the CNEA Membership shall:

  1. Represent the interests of Members’ sponsoring organizations at the CNEA Membership level;
  2. Represent the interests of the CNEA within Members’ respective organizations or communities;
  3. Inspire progressive discussion around topics related to both traditional and emerging practices, activities and developments within Members’ respective organizations or communities, with a specific focus on:
    1. innovation;
    2. indigenous peoples, and their contributions, culture and traditions; and
    3. accessibility and inclusivity;
  4. Maintain a membership that is up-to-date, reflective of, and supports the CNEA Strategic Plan in effect during the given period.

Municipal Section Purpose Statement:

The Purpose of the Municipal Section is to represent the City of Toronto, and other specified government-affiliated organizations, at the Canadian National Exhibition Association Membership level. In pursuance of this Purpose, this Section shall:

  1. Represent the interests of the City of Toronto at CNEA meetings or other activities;
  2. Represent the interests of the CNEA at the government, or government-affiliated organization level;
  3. Maintain a membership as prescribed in the CNEA Act in effect during the given membership election year, which at the time of writing, is the CNEA Act, 2000.

Agriculture Section Purpose Statement:

The Purpose of the Agriculture Section is to represent the agricultural sector, and related industries, in Canada at the Canadian National Exhibition Association Membership level. In pursuance of this Purpose, this Section shall:

  1. Promote and advance the interests of the agricultural sector, and related industries, in Canada at CNEA meetings or other activities;
  2. Represent the interests of the CNEA within Members’ respective organizations or communities within the agricultural sector, and related industries, in Canada;
  3. Inspire progressive discussion around topics related to both traditional and emerging practices, activities and developments within Members’ respective organizations or communities, with a specific focus on:
    1. innovation;
    2. environment and sustainability;
    3. urban food; and
    4. additional significant future categories that may arise;
  4. Maintain a membership that is up-to-date, reflective of, and supports the CNEA Strategic Plan in effect during the given period.

General and Liberal Arts Section Purpose Statement:

The Purpose of the General and Liberal Arts Section is to promote and advance the liberal arts, and other general causes or interests, in Canada at the Canadian National Exhibition Association Membership level. In pursuance of this Purpose, this Section shall:

  1. Promote and advance the interests of the liberal arts, and other general causes or interests, in Canada at CNEA meetings or activities;
  2. Represent the interests of the CNEA within Members’ respective organizations or communities in the areas of liberal arts, and other general causes or interests, in Canada;
  3. Inspire progressive discussion around topics related to both traditional and emerging practices, activities and developments within Members’ respective organizations or communities, with a specific focus on:
    1. innovation;
    2. indigenous peoples, and their contributions, culture and traditions; and
    3. accessibility and inclusivity;
  4. Maintain a membership that is up-to-date, reflective of, and supports the CNEA Strategic Plan in effect during the given period.

Manufacturers and Industry Section Purpose Statement:

The Purpose of the Manufacturers and Industry Section is to promote and advance the interests of the business sector in Canada at the Canadian National Exhibition Association Membership level. In pursuance of this Purpose, this Section shall:

  1. Promote and advance the interests of the business sector in Canada at CNEA meetings or other activities;
  2. Represent the interests of the CNEA within Members’ respective organizations or communities within the business sector in Canada;
  3. Inspire progressive discussion around topics related to both traditional and emerging practices, activities and developments within Members’ respective organizations or communities, with a specific focus on:
  4. innovation;
  5. indigenous peoples, and their contributions, culture and traditions; and
  6. accessibility and inclusivity;
  7. Maintain a membership that is up-to-date, reflective of, and supports the CNEA Strategic Plan in effect during the given period.
