Community and Youth Programs
Help build community and support our future stars
With your financial gift, you can help make a lasting impact on the lives of young people through our Community and Youth Programs. Youth participation in sports and arts programs is known to provide a number of benefits, including helping to build self-esteem and social skills. Sports participation in childhood can also contribute to a lifetime of health and wellness.
Youth Community Baseball
We are proud to present youth community baseball at the annual CNE. This includes the Lions-CNE Peewee Baseball Tournament, which celebrated its 63rd anniversary in 2019. Since 1956, the tournament has guided more than 17,000 young people through the highs and lows of the baseball tournament experience. For more than half a century, rising in the early hours of the morning, young people from throughout Southern Ontario have climbed into family cars and school buses and made the journey to the Canadian National Exhibition to compete for the coveted first place title. With your gift, you can help ensure this cherished community tradition can be enjoyed for many more generations to come.
The CNE Foundation gratefully acknowledges the support of the Lions Club of Toronto Central.
CNE-Ontario Basketball Association 3-on-3 Tournament
At the CNE Foundation, we believe in supporting young people in the pursuit of their passions and in a basketball city like Toronto what better way to accomplish this than to provide opportunities to compete on the court! With the support of our donors, the popular CNE-OBA: 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be back for a third season. Now the largest urban team sport in the world, this is a form of basketball played three a side on one hoop. The tournament is hosted at the OVO Athletic Centre on the CNE site and welcomes future stars in three categories: Boys under 13, Mixed under 10 and Girls under 13.
Rising Star Talent Competition
Our commitments to community, youth, arts and culture all come together with the CNE Rising Star Talent Competition. Since 1987, the competition has showcased talented young performers in a wide variety of genres. From vocal, to dance, to instrumentalists and bands, youth 6 to 21 years of age wow audiences and compete for prize money to help explore their dreams. Previous contestants have included two founding members of the beloved Canadian band Barenaked Ladies, award-winning crooner Matt Dusk and dancer-choreographer Blake McGrath who rose to fame after appearing in the popular So You Think You Can Dance competition-reality show. Through the support of our donors, we can help ensure only the sky is the limit for the 120 acts competing in this year’s competition.
